For seven years now, rock band Onebigmess has been making quite a name for themselves in the local Boston music scene. Starting in 1999, they have spent the last seven years developing their songwriting skills, playing as many live shows as they can, and developing their ever-growing fan base. The music, well that speaks for itself. The diversity of the material is what attracts the fans to the music. It’s what drove the first EP “Almost Gone” to sell out its first printing, and is what is driving the sales of their first full-length CD (titled “You Figure It Out”) to surpass the 1,000 units-sold mark. These CD’s have also received College radio support, being added to many college playlists, as well as being featured on a few of the Local Music shows around the Boston Area (WAAF and WBCN specifically). Created of equal parts anger, frustration, and beauty, the music of Onebigmess skillfully blends the explosive rhythms, poignant lyrics, and moody backbeats that make for a truly unique sound. The band has a wide range of music styles, from balls-to-the-wall rock, to soft verse/heavy chorus bash and pop, to barroom blues rock, epic sagas, and emotional slow grooving songs, Onebigmess truly has something for everybody. Accomplishments along the way include competing in the first two Beantown Meltdown competitions, and while they haven’t won (yet), they made it into the semi-finals the first year, and the finals in the last year. They have played with many of Boston’s best local bands, and have been developing a rabid fan base through their explosive live shows across New England. The members of Onebigmess all grew up in the suburbs around Boston, MA, and the band is now headquartered in Middleton, MA, where they practice. The band has seen its share of personnel changes over the years (there is only one remaining “Original” member), but the music and the spirit of the band has always stayed the same. Rob Kelley (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) grew up in the small town of Stoneham, Massachusetts. A self-diagnosed music junkie, he devoured anything rock, punk, metal, and alternative, with a sprinkling of rap/hip hop on the side. He is the bands’ chief lyricist, and adds his heavy distorted guitar sound to pretty much any song he can squeeze it into. Chris Deao (Drummer) grew up in the quiet suburbs of Wakefield and Haverhill, where his love of heavy metal pushed him to build his skills as a drummer. Deao’s powerful drumming fully compliments the Onebigmess sound, and the intricacies he plays through some of the subtle passages of the music, as well as the no-holds-barred ferocity he brings to the heavier songs, truly define the Onebigmess sound. Chris Devine (Lead Guitarist), has performed in and around the Greater Boston area since the early 90's. He's performed as part of a group and fronting his own band. He released his own Solo CD "A Little Bit of Everything" In 1998. After Spending 4 years with Moontide, he left to pursue a new project that was originally called Rev Limiter and now more formally known as Vent. He had been friends with Onebigmess for years, and the band asked him down to jam. After playing a few shows with the Mess, they decided to make it official, and changed from the short-lived “Power Trio” into the current 4-piece band they are most comfortable with the addition of Glenn "Seldawg" (Bassist), the newest member of the band, The excitement and explosiveness of a Mess show is what defines the sound and style of the band. The onstage antics of the band mirror the intensity of their music. Onebigmess has played at many of the major venues in Boston, as well as throughout New England. They have played Battles, Festivals, Rallies, and Fund Raisers. They have played to rooms of 2 people as well as to rooms of 600 people. They are comfortable with their audience, and are a very professional band that uses every opportunity to push and promote their shows, as well as their music.
