After thirty years of chasing the dream, Tom Wirtanen and Dave Rickard decided to make it come true. On May 2, 2002, at Dick's Den, the premier jazz venue in all of Columbus, Ohio, Tom "Wildman" Wirtanen and Dave Rickard and his band Dirty Billy created an anthology of music in a rousing live performance that melded the finest classics of rock 'n roll with the finest ballads performable. The result is a double CD that is half original, half cover, half rock, half ballads, and all incredible. DB members John Lloyd Morrison and drummer Jeff Brown create a superb foundation for a unique rock sound.
This double CD represents a highlight of an incredible year for Tom Wirtanen. After years of work, Tom appeared as a solo artist from York Harbor, Maine to Talkeetna, Alaska. The amazing tally included jamming appearances with Armand D and the Real Deal at the Sunrise Inn on the Kenai River, with Joey Fender and the legendary Seattle Slim at Blues Central in Anchorage, Alaska and incredibly, a solo appearance as the opening act at the Talkeetna Bluegrass festival.
After so many miles, On October 18, 2002 this double CD was released in a live appearance at a packed Dick's Den in Columbus, Ohio. There is no question as to Tom's inspiration at this venue, and his appreciation of Dave Rickard's genius as the music director of this venture.
Dirty Billy is one great rock band, and will be for years to come.
